A defining hallmark of fascism is the partnership between big government and big corporations along lines of ideology and shared interest. The space where their interests overlap is the most vulnerable part of democracy. In a recent article, civil rights lawyer Jonathan Turley points out some alarming trends toward fascism in America.
“The public is now required to discuss public controversies within the lines and limits set by corporate censors — with the guidance of the government.”
“If these trends continue, citizens could find themselves effectively exiled by order of corporate governors — unable to travel or go to school while also barred from espousing dissenting views on social media.”

While dystopian stories are generally supposed to be fictional and cautionary tales, they are instead beginning to look more and more like blueprints we are following to construct modern society. Foreboding masterpieces such as 1984, Brave New World, Wall-E, The Matrix, Metropolis and many others, once relegated to fiction and fantasy, are looking increasingly like reality.
